RC Hole In One Ball Cup Quick Tip

One of the best recent innovations to the ball cup is an adjustment hole. The hole makes building easier, without marring tools such as pliers, however, not all ball cups have the hole. You can use a standard tire hole punch (shown) to make our own. A useful tip for those kit releases without, including the recent Losi 22 5.0 release.

Tip Pros:

Professional factory look.
Easy of adjustment. Cup can be adjusted without marring tools, and sometimes the easiest way to remove a cup is with the ball stud intact.
Slight decrease in weight.

Tip Cons:

May allow dirt and debris to enter ball cup, resulting in premature wear. Increased inspection, and or, replacement may be warranted.

In racing, we know every second counts, and any contact with a wall or pipe will slow us down. I used a belt sander to quickly remove a small portion of the threaded rear axles, so that they do not extend outside of the wheel surface. Besides removing a very small amount of rotating mass, this is one less thing to literally hang up on something, or kick the car into a slide after a minor bump. Simple and fast!
